A blog about
Japanese Language, &
Memory Improvement
Things that I write about
Japanese Language
I have created free, downloadable PDF worksheets to aid anyone wishing to learn the first two alphabets of the Japanese language, Hiragana and Katakana. One worksheet will post each day Monday through Friday until the basics are available, then I will offer something else (probably Kanji or vocabulary for the proficiency exams).
Memory Improvement
Contemporary science suggests that an exercised brain helps produce a healthy brain, and memorization is one of the way I exercise my brain. The Memory Palace section is a collection of photographs taken by myself at popular tourist areas in San Francisco that you may use as memory palaces, and personal stories.
Other Things
And other things as they come to mind!
Why Japanese:
Homecoming
Like many who grew up in poor families in the rural mid-west, I joined the military to get out of that environment. The military allowed me to see the world by visiting many countries. Japan was the only country that I stepped foot onto and it instantly felt like I was home.
Overcoming The Struggle
For years I struggled to learn the Japanese language to no avail. No matter how much work or effort I put into learning the material, I failed each time. I could not remember what I was being taught, could not apply what I was being taught, and I gave up on several occasions. After the last round of giving up, I decided to begin learning the language at my pace and in my own way.
Worksheets
I created the Japanese Hiragana & Katakana Practice Worksheets to help me learn how to read and write the first two alphabets of the Japanese language. These worksheets are available on Amazon, or downloadable for free in PDF format here.

Why Memory:
A Good Memory
Growing up, I had a good memory. It was easy for me to read a book and remember what was read well enough to discuss it, but as I entered my 20's, that ability to retain information quickly dissipated.
Shut Down to Depression
For reasons I did not understand at the time, my ability to retain information read and even learned through other means, such as college courses, did not remain. As time progressed, my ability to remember important details lessened.
I did not know why this was happening, and it led to lost relationships and financial self-destruction several times.
Last time, 2016, was the worst. It was so bad that I sought professional help and began to see a psychiatrist. In that clinical setting, I was diagnosed with depression.
Re-Booting to Upgrade
Using my time with the psychiatrist as check-points ("reality-checks") to keep me grounded and on track to defeating this "Noonday Demon" (the name of a book by author Andrew Solomon), I changed my lifestyle by changing my diet and putting my brain to work.
I changed my diet and began to exercise my brain using coursework by Anthony Metivier (Magnetic Memory) and Jonathan Levi (SuperLearner).
The combined cumulative result of changing my diet and exercising my brain helped me defeat that Noonday Demon.
I now have a thousand times more energy, My mind is clear of distractions, and my memory works phenomenally well.
My system has been "re-booted", and I want to share that personal success with you.
